WORLD DAY OF PRAYER SERVICES
Sponsored by Church Women United of Cape Cod
World Day of Prayer – March 4, 2011

The Women of Chile ask “How Many Loaves Have You?”

World Day of Prayer is a worldwide ecumenical movement of people of many faith traditions who come together to observe a common day of prayer each year on the first Friday in March. This year’s World Day of Prayer services will begin at sunrise in the Pacific region and continue across the Americas and the rest of the world.

The women of Chile have written the service for 2011. We are familiar with their South American country where the people suffered both an earthquake in February 2010 and a mine explosion in August of the same year. Chile is a rich land with flowing streams, abundant food, wheat, barley, figs, vines, pomegranates and mineral deposits. But there are contradictions in this country where there are abundant riches, yet many people who do not have enough to eat, even when they work long hard hours.

The women of Chile have chosen the theme “How Many Loaves Have You?” They ask you to consider “What are your gifts? What do you have to share? How many loaves have you?”

Thirteen services were held on Cape Cod. From Wareham to Provincetown people will gather to lift their voices in song and a common prayer. For additional information, contact the church or the person listed with each individual service, or Bev Hammel,

The first LOCAL Church Women United Human Rights Celebration was held in 2006. National Human Rights Celebrations have been held at the United Nations Delegates Dining Room and at the Interchurch Center at 475 Riverside Drive in New York City. The CWU National Board decided that having LOCAL Human Rights Celebrations with LOCAL individuals receiving NATIONAL Human Rights Awards would be a better way to promote the cause of Human Rights. Church Women United of Cape Cod has been happy to be part of this process. The past Cape Cod Human Rights Celebrations, Themes, Locations, and Honorees are listed for your information. Each year nominations for honorees are received from faith communities and individuals and a selection committee makes the final decision. The honorees are selected based on their work for the cause of Human Rights. Each year a theme is chosen by the Church Women United National Celebrations Committee reflecting a different aspect of Human Rights. Honorees receive a National Church Women United Award given in a local setting. These Celebrations are held all over the United Stated annually. Church Women United of Cape Cod has been proud to recognize these individuals for all their work. Each Celebration has been an inspiring experience for all who attended. The theme for the 2011 Celebration is “Living Our Legacy – Driving the Movement
